15 Minute Workout for Fat Loss
March 4th, 2008 · Filed Under: Abs Exercise
Happy Tuesday!
I’ll make this short and sweet, like my 15 minute workout for fat loss that I did today.
In fact, I just finished it about 5 minutes ago. : )
I like to perform short, intense workouts most of the time. It keeps me focused on the task at hand and gives me more free time for other things.
My normal interval training routine was getting a little stale recently. Not difficult enough, and frankly, I was getting bored with it.
So what did I do? I changed it up.
So I went to my gym in my apartment and…..hold on, hold on. You went inside a gym, Scott? I thought you did nothing but outdoor workouts.
Well normally I do, but there are just sometimes where I like to control the speed of my sprints and so I use a treadmill.
And today, I actually needed hills. And Dallas ain’t got no hills. Perhaps a reason we’re one of the fattest cities in America?
Anyway, back to my workout. The main thing that I changed in my interval training was to add hills to my sprints. Or in my case, an incline to the treadmill.
If you read The Truth About Six-Pack Abs, they talk a lot about interval training, wind sprints and hill sprints as one of the best things you can do to get a flat stomach and six-pack abs.
Since I added an incline to the treadmill, I backed off the speed from 11 mph to 9 mph.
So my workout was the following:
Warm up with a brisk walk or slow jog on the treadmill
Run at 9 mph and 5% incline for one minute
Walk at 3.5 mph and 2% incline for 90 seconds
Repeat for 5 rounds
Brief cool down
And there’s your 15 minute workout for fat loss. I worked up a good sweat and now I’m headed for a shower.
So, are you ready to try this? I would love to hear your experience. Or maybe you have your own 15 minute workout. Please add your comments and share with everyone. And while you’re at it, maybe you can suggest a place for me to move that has hills. : )
Have an amazing day.
Scott

Scott,
Another great post…
Your perspective resonates big time with me as the reality is, the person who has more ways to train and condition his or her body in the time they’ve got, will live at or near their ideal weight all the time. Of course your lifestyle has to be reinforcing health and success.
This morning, I went outside and did 1000 jump roping repetitions (I remember the days when 250 was really hard) only 2 short years ago, then came inside and used my power wheel, stability ball and wall gym for a complete full body workout in 15 minutes, including that high intensity jump rope training. Not allot of resting during that time.
Showered and made a blended smoothie and was out the door in 30 minutes. It was a beautiful thing!
This is a common practice for me, but not the only practice, which is key.

Hi Scott;
Excellent-a workout that is short and sweet and yet has the potential to produce excellent results..you asked about a place where there is hills??You need to try our Canadian landscape-with rolling hills and C-O-L-D winters!!Here’s a workout-this morning in Saskatchewan our temperature was -23 with a wind chill of -35..try walking in that all bundled up!!!Or taking 10 toddlers all bundled up in their winter gear with three sleds out for a 30-minute walk-excellent workout..but Scott I don’t know if you could survive our winters as you are use to the Dallas heat?!thanks Helen

Your comments on hills is right on! I live in a valley and take my kids on the sled and try running up and down the hills. Together they weigh 66lbs. Pulling the kids up is very HARD but going down was just as hard as I was trying to run faster then the sled so it would not slam into me. I could only do this for about 20mins and then I am wiped out. Great fun, great workout and best of all I get to have fun with my kids.

I like the 15 min. workout. I’ll let you know what kind of results I get. I have used something like this only added weights. 15lbs dumbbells for fifteen minutes while I walk. I do all of this on a treadmill. I start at 3mph then move up to 4mph while I very the incline from 4% to 6%. This will work up a good sweat too and boy does it tone the up body. It took me some time to work up to 15 minutes. While I’m walking with the dumbbells I do triceps extension, biceps curls, deltoid raises (front & side), and over head presses. It good for a change!

Hey Scott,
Just want to say that your blog has got a great mix of videos, audio etc. Can’t think of anything else I’d add. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your ab secrets. Mine are really showing now. I’m down to 4.6% body fat!
