How You Can Help Wipe Out Obesity

February 29th, 2008

Happy Friday!

I’ve got great news to share with you. A strategy has been developed to wipe out obesity from the face of this planet. However, it requires your help. Yes YOU - I’m asking you to please get involved.

I don’t know if you know this or not, but there have been predictions by health researchers that by the year 2015, three quarters of North America will be obese.

We can’t let this happen. I can’t and neither can you.

My good friend Scott Tousignant has developed a plan to wipe out obesity. Poof! Gone!

He has asked me for my help and of course, I’m in!

For this to work, we need your help too.

So, the first 3 things I would like for you to are the following:

1) Scott Tousignant has written The Obliterate Obesity Report. What I would like you to do is to go to Scott’s website - Unstoppable Fat Loss, download the report, and read it. You’ll have to enter in your name and email address, so Scott knows where to send the report. By the way, when you request the report, Scott will also send you an mp3 file on how to have Unstoppable motivation.

2) Scott and I did a short interview about his plans to obliterate obesity, get rid of it altogether, and what you can do to help. We need your help. Please listen to the interview below.

3) Please share your comments on the blog about what you plan to do to help us, or any questions you might have. Or maybe you have some of your own great ideas on how to get rid of obesity. We would love to hear anything you have to say. This is going to take a united effort, but together we can do it. We have the power to do anything.

Thanks for your help. : )

Have a wonderful weekend.

Can You Will Your Way to Fat Loss and a Flat Stomach?

February 28th, 2008

Howdy all!

Willpower - it’s an interesting word, isn’t it?

The ability to control your actions.

Some of you believe in it, and some of you don’t.

Some of you think that to create long lasting, permanent weight loss, you need incredible amounts of willpower. Others scream phooey!

Me? I think you can will yourself to do something on a short term basis. But willpower is temporary. I had great success on The Every Other Day Diet, but I did not rely on willpower.

I mean, how many of you have ever started on a diet program full force? You’re excited. You know this time will be THE time that you lose your weight for good. And after about a week or so, it comes crashing down to an end.

What happened?

Did you not have enough willpower?

Maybe there are some things you could have done prior to starting the diet to make your results long lasting. Such as setting up your environment for success and finding your bigger reason for wanting to lose weight.

Scott Tousignant and I talk about willpower in this week’s episode of The Great Fat Loss Debate.

After you listen, I want to hear what your expereinces are with willpower. Has willpower worked for you? Do you even believe in willpower? What have you done to successfully lose weight and keep it off especially when you have certain foods that you can’t live without. Share your comments below.

The Best Abs Exercise - Push Up Mania Part 2

February 26th, 2008

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that the push up is one of the best abs exercises. I hope everyone enjoyed the video I made of 17 different styles of push ups, because I decided to make another one!

These push ups are a little different in that most of them need equipment. The last video showed you only push ups that didn’t require any equipment. I filmed a few more like that, but the rest make use of dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, a stability ball, a swing set, and another person!

Yep you heard right, you’ll have to watch the entire video to see the famous Advanced Partner Push Up at the very end. These were a blast to try out. Anyway I think I came up with 33 more push up variations!

After doing these, I know the push up is one of the best abs exercises. My abs were rocked for 2 days straight after filming this along with my chest and triceps.

We make great use of the push up in the Four Minute Workout DVDs as we show you a few variations. But now, I’ve showed you 50 different push up variations! You can make up an endless number of your own 4-minute workouts.

Check out the video of all these push ups. Let me know what you think? Can you guess which one was the hardest for me to do? Which ones will you try? Please leave your comments in the link that says Comment.

Enjoy the video!

Is Diet Soda Making You Fat?

February 24th, 2008
· Filed Under: Abs Nutrition · Podcasts

Is diet soda making you fat? It very well may be. This was the subject of the most recent Great Fat Loss Debate with Scott Colby (that’s me) and Scott Tousignant. We had 3 special guests on the line as well to give their opinion - Kevin Gianni, Kyle Battis and Rob Poulos.

How can diet soda (or pop as some people like to say) make you fat? Doesn’t it have no sugar and no calories? Well yes, yes it does. But let’s take a closer look. First I want to reveal to you the nasty ingredients of diet coke, one of the most popular diet drinks out there. These are listed in order of greatest to least amount…

Carbonated Water
Caramel Color
Aspartame
Phosphoric Acid
Potassium Benzoate (to protect taste)
Natural Flavors
Citric Acid
Caffeine

Tastey! As you can see, there is nothing healthy about diet soda at all. They contain no nutrients that your body needs. In fact, it’s poison to your body. There are actual research studies that show that diet soda drinkers gain more weight than regular soda drinkers. One theory is that the artificial sweeteners in diet soda trigger a hormone in your body that causes you to store more fat and have more cravings for sugar.

Another theory is that diet soda drinkers may adopt the mindset that since they are drinking diet soda, this gives permission to consume more calories in the foods that they eat.

In any event, diet soda is not good to put into your body if you want as healthy a life as possible. We had a lot of great opinions in our podcast, “Is Diet Soda Making You Fat.” We even gave suggestions on how to stop drinking diet soda if you’re addicted to it.

Please listen to the audio below. And don’t forget to share your opinions. Do you agree with us and the research? Is diet soda making us fat? Did you used to be addicted to diet soda and now you’re not? Share your opinions and stories below in the Comments section.

Have a wonderful day.

Spice Up Your Interval Training to Burn Belly Fat

February 21st, 2008

Usually when I do interval training, I”ll either use a treadmill in my apartment gym or I will find a track or a field and run sprints. By the way, when I refer to interval training, I’m referring to alternating short periods of intense exercise with longer periods of moderate exercise. An example is running fast for one minute, followed by walking for two minutes. Interval training is a great way to get more fit, and burn belly fat. Interval training - performed on a regular basis - will increase your cardiovascuilar fitness. It will also give you an afterburn effect, boosting your metabolism for several hours after you complete the workout, so you can burn calories all day long - a must if you want a flat stomach and six-pack abs.

Normally when I do interval training on a treadmill, I’ll do a proper warm up, then I’ll run at 11 miles per hour for a minute, which is the fastest our treadmills will go. I’ll then walk at about 3.6 mph for as long as it takes me to recover - usually between a minute and a minute and a half. Well yesterday, after I ran for a minute at 11 miles per hour, I wanted to increase the metabolic effect and get some strengthening in, so I got off the treadmill and performed 20 kettlebell swings and 20 kettlebell high pulls. Whew! My heart rate was high after this. I then got back on the treadmill and walked for about a minute to a minute and a half at 3.6 miles per hour. I performed 3 rounds. My total workout was about 15 minutes, and I really felt it. Remember, everyone is different, so you need to find what speed works for you on the treadmill.

So the workout was:

Warm up
Run at 11 mph for 1 minute
Kettlebell swings x 20
Kettlebell high pulls x 20
Walk at 3.6 mph for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes
Perform 3 rounds.

Again, if you are looking to burn belly fat, interval training is one of the best ways to do this. Once you get good at interval training, mixing it up like I did should enhance your results. Interval training was vital for my abs transformation and in getting them as lean as possible and I perform it about 3 days per week. But it’s always very quick - about 20 minutes or less.

What other ways can you mix up your interval training? I would love to hear what has worked for you.

Womens Fitness

February 17th, 2008

You may not know it, but besides doing teleseminars and videos, and posting on this blog, I also run a womens fitness bootcamp in Dallas, Texas. We always have a great group of women come out and get in a fun, intense workout. I have a blast teaching the class. The name of the bootcamp is called Her Strength.

Womens fitness is an important topic and more specifically I wanted to talk a little bit about strength training for women. I know there are still a lot of women that walk as their only means of exercise. While this is great that you are out there and moving, it’s not the best way to burn body fat and lose weight. One of the best things a woman (or a man) can do is to add strength training to your workouts. Strength training will help you build nice, sexy lean muscle, and boost your metabolism allowing you to burn fat calories all day long. You will feel strong, look great and be more confident. And you will decrease your risk of a number of ailments and diseases, osteoporosis being one of them.

So don’t forget, if you are not already doing so, you should be doing some sort of strength training as part of your workouts.

Check out some highlights of our womens fitness bootcamp in the video below. Some of the circuits we do in camp come from The Four Minute Workout DVDs. Hopefully the video will inspire you to get off your butt and just do it! : )

Oh and if you are in the Dallas area, check out our Her Strength Fitness Camp. These are a great group women and I am proud of the commitment that each one of them has shown in class.

Scott

The Best Abs Exercise

February 11th, 2008

We are all looking for that best and most effective abs exercise to help you get a flat stomach, or a six-pack and get that nice, sexy looking stomach. I mean, just look at the infomercials that you see on late night telesevision which always seem to promote the latest gizmo or gadget for getting you a flat stomach. Most of those gadgets, I believe, are a waste of money and are not that effective.

What you can use is your own bodyweight. And I believe that one of the best abs exercises out there is the push up. Now you may not be thinking of a push up as an abs exercise, but if you get in a push up position with your knees off the ground, your abs are working extremely hard at supporting your body and helping you maintain that position. So when you go up and down and perform a push up, your abs are contracted and working hard the entire time. If you lay down on your back and do a more tradtional abs exercise, like a crunch, everytime you are on the down portion of the movement, your back is supported by the ground and your abs are relaxed, not working.

Besides being a great abs exercise, the push up is also one of the best exercises to strengthen and develop your upper body, including your chest, shoulders and triceps. You may be thinking there are only a couple of different ways to do a push up, but I made a video that includes 17 different ways to perform a push up, and these don’t require any equipment at all. The push up is also one of my favorite exercises to do in the 4-Minute Circuits that I like to perform. You can check out the 4-Minute Workout DVDs here.

And guess what? You can do a push up anywhere - at home, outside, in your hotel room when you are out of town - anywhere at all.

Anyway, enjoy the push up video below. There are push ups for every level of fitness - from complete beginner to advanced athlete. I would love for you to watch the video and leave your comments. Did I leave any push ups out? Can you think of other types of push ups to do?

Have a great day!

Eating Low Carb - Does it Work for Fat Loss?

February 7th, 2008
· Filed Under: Abs Nutrition · Podcasts

I recently did a great interview with Jayson Hunter, who is a registered dietician and author of the brand new book, The Carb Rotation Diet. Can you eat low carb and experience permanent fat loss? I put Jayson Hunter to the test as he answered this question and many more in our podcast. In the interview, Jayson explains his “carb rotation” strategy that allows you to eat many of your favorite foods and still lose a lot of fat. In fact, the principles of his Carb Rotation Diet book are the same ones I used in my abs transformation.

Among the questions Jayson answered were…

Why most diets fail…

The top strategies for successful weight loss…

Why most people gain all their weight back once they are done with their diet…

Why you can’t just eat a low or no carb diet…

And we also covered the carb rotation strategy of eating that will force your body to drop weight rapidly but very safely.

So check outy the podcast below. Please listen to the entire 25 minute interview and leave your comments.

Enjoy! : )

Quick Workouts for Fat Loss

February 7th, 2008
· Filed Under: Abs Exercise · Podcasts

Quick workouts and interval training were the topics of episode #3 of The Great Fat Loss Debate with Scott Tousignant and Scott Colby. Can you increase the intensity of your workouts so that you can shorten your workouts to 10-15 minutes a day and still get great fat loss results? Well the research is saying yes you can, and in my own workouts I have gotten great fat loss results with short, intense workouts. In fact, I often will string together three of four of these four-minute interval circuits together from my Four Minute Workout DVDs for a quick, but very effective fat burning workout.

Should you ignore all long, traditional, low to moderate intensity workouts? Well this is up for debate. In fact, this is much of what Scott Tousignant and I debated in our podcast. Ultimately, whatever you enjoying doing for your exercise is what you will stick with and make you happy. That is most important.

Scott T and I would love for you to listen to us debate the topic of quick workouts for fat loss. Please listen the podcast below and then click on the link that says Comments so we can hear what you think.

We would love to get your opinion. So speak out! : )
