Strength for Life

April 30th, 2008

Hi All,

With over 5 million served, chances are you or someone you know has done the Body-for-Life program, perhaps even becoming one of the inspiring “before & after” success stories. If you’ve been talking to yourself about “getting back” in your best “after” shape but can’t find the time or inspiration…

Your invitation has arrived.

Veteran fitness expert and author, Shawn Phillips offers the latest installment in the Phillips’ mission to transform our country, and rejuvenate your strength.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Shawn about his latest health mission, Strength for Life.

Embodying Shawn’s more than two decades of leadership in strength and fitness and embracing the lessons from the collective millions of transformations—both the successes and failures, Strength for Life resolves mysteries and challenges that have plagued many willing fitness enthusiasts for nearly a decade.

Strength for Life delivers “the rest of the story”, brilliantly picking up where his younger brother, Bill began nearly a decade ago. It is at once both familiar and completely fresh. An inspiring read with brilliant clarity and practical wisdom, this is no typical fitness “to do list.” Strength for Life is a brilliant ray of light cutting a path through the “fog of fitness” that makes living a Transformed life foolproof.

The Paradox of Health

In Strength for Life, Shawn exposes the “paradox of health:” How it is that Americans can be both obsessed with health, yet be increasingly unhealthy? He calls forth the urgent need to go beyond health—which is for most nothing more than being free from illness—to a life of strength which he defines as abundant energy, vitality and the capacity to make an impact in the world.

Where health is, for most, the absence of illness, Strength is the presence of something great. Strength is abundance. It enables you to do more, be more and have more: more of everything—more energy, more vitality, more time, more happiness and joy, and more freedom.

Some 2,000 years ago the Greeks declared “mens sana in corpore sano” translated “a healthy mind in a healthy body.” Ever since, health has been the accepted standard, but today life demands more of us. Hence, nothing less than “a strong mind in a strong body” will do. The message comes through loud and clear: health is not enough, now is A Time For Strength.

Energy is The Real Currency of Life.

Some will be shocked to discover the most significant fitness book in the last decade, Strength for Life, is not about the sets and reps. Rather, it’s the first of its kind self-help book that embraces and transforms your physical, emotional and mental strength.

As simple as it is effective, Strength for Life offers the first and only fully integrated body-mind approach that yields maximum results in minimal time. Author Shawn Phillips shatters the barrier of TIME—the biggest obstacle to fitness—showing you how to focus your mind, master your energy and transform your life.

The innovative 3-Phase System amplifies the success rate while eliminating the leading causes of fitness failure. The 12-day total body reboot, activates, the 12-week training camp transforms and the innovative 12-month personalized plan: “Week 13 and Beyond” delivers you beyond health—beyond “good enough,” to a life of Strength: an abundance of health, energy and vitality to do more, have more and be more.

In Strength for Life You’ll Discover Hundreds of Fresh New Ideas and Life-Enhancing Practices, Including:

1. How to Avoid the #1 Cause of Fitness and Transformation Failure
2. What comes after the Transformation: Week 13 & Beyond…The Rest Of The Story

It’s My 37th Birthday - And You Benefit BIG TIME

April 27th, 2008

Howdy

Today, Sunday April 27th is my 37th birthday.

Whew, I’m getting pretty close to the big 40, but I guess it’s all about how you feel, right?

And on the positive side, I am always told I look like I’m in my twenties.

I’ll take that any day of the week! : )

Anyway, you’re going to benefit big time on my birthday.

I’ll tell you how in just a sec.

If you’re in a hurry just go to Big Birthday Sale.

Last night I got together with some of my bootcamp members and other friends for dinner and drinks and celebration.

We decided to celebrate last night, the day before my birthday, since it was Saturday.

We went to a place called Ozona and sat outside on their patio.

The weather was perfect outside and I allowed myself to eat whatever I wanted.

So I had a cheeseburger, fries and some cold, frosty beers.

They didn’t have anything chocolate on their dessert menu so dessert was skipped.

Then a few of us went out after dinner to the Sunset Lounge for some more drinks and a little dancing.

Hey at least dancing is a way to burn some calories, right?

I’m not very good at it though. : )

It was a great night of celebrating and I don’t think I crawled in bed until after 3 in the morning.

Unfortunately, my cats woke me up at about 8 this morning because they were hungry.

But at least they got me out of bed, and I thought I would put together a little special offer for you so you can help me celebrate my birthday too. : )

Check out the Big Birthday Sale

Most of my products are deeply discounted…very deep, like I’ve gone out of my mind deep.

But hey, I don’t care.

Aren’t you supposed to do whatever you want on your birthday?

Check everything discounted on the Big Birthday Sale, but keep in mind that this offer is very limited and only lasts until Tuesday, April 29 at 11:59 pm Eastern.

I’m not sure when I’ll do something like this ever again, so I hope you check it out.

Oh, and a few of the products are going to be taken off the market, so I have limited
inventory and only have a few copies left.

When they’re gone, they’re gone, so move swiftly.

Have an amazing day.

Abs Diet Recipe - Raspberry Apple Crumble

April 25th, 2008

Howdy,

A lot of you were asking for “sweet” alternatives for food choices besides fruit.

Well I asked Jayson Hunter, author of The Carb Rotation Diet, and he came up with another delicious abs diet recipe

Here’s what Jayson had to say…

Many experts say instead of dessert just eat some plain fruit.

Well, for many that just doesn’t cut it or it gets old after a while.

If you are eating healthy then you are allowed so called cheat meals.

This means that if you eat healthy 95% of the time you are allowed to eat bad 5% of the time.

This could mean a piece of chocolate cake for some or ice cream for others.

You can also choose desserts or sweets that provide better sources of protein, calcium or eat dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate.

Always look for the better of the worst when it comes to desserts and sweets.

Try to choose foods that will provide some more nutrients than others yet equal calories.

Some examples would be peanut M&M’s or chocolate covered raisins.

They both provide increased calcium and protein then let’s say Hershey kisses or regular M&Ms.

You can also experiment with your recipes by cutting down on the flour or sugar and substituting milk based protein powder to increase the protein content.

Now, I do say experiment because many times this is a trial and error type of process.

Though, you can hit on a winner that not only tastes great, but is healthier for you as well.

The recipe below is an old classic, but with less of the bad ingredients you want to avoid.

It still tastes great and is lower in calories with only 175 calories per 1 cup.

Raspberry Apple Crumble

4 medium, tart apples, such as Granny Smith
¼ cup orange juice
2 Tbsp raspberry preserves
2 Tbsp quick cooking oats
2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp brown sugar
2 Tbsp wheat germ
½ tsp ground cinnamon
1 Tbsp melted butter

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees

2. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples

3. Combine the sliced apples, juice, preserves, and ¼ cup water in a bowl. Pour the mixture into an 8-by-8 inch glass baking dish and set aside

4. Combine the oats, flour, sugar, wheat germ, cinnamon, and salt. Add the melted butter and mix well.

5. Top the apple mixture with the oats mixture, cover, and bake 1 hour or until the apples are tender. Uncover the dish for the last 10 minutes of baking.

Note: You can use other preserve flavors such as strawberry or blackberry if you wish.

When is the Best Time to Eat Carbs and Protein for Six-Pack Abs?

April 24th, 2008
· Filed Under: Abs Nutrition · Podcasts

I received a question recently that wanted to know if it was better to eat your carbs and proteins at the same time or should you keep these two nutrients separate and not eat them together.

Well there is actually a definite answer to this question if your goal is to strip away belly fat and even start to develop six-pack abs.

Jayson Hunter, author of The Carb Rotation Diet, was nice enough to hop on board and answer this question for us on this week’s Q&A.

Jayson revealed why you absolutely should be eating some protein at each and every meal.

This is essential if you want to look sexy in your swimsuit this year. : )

He also talked about how much protein we should be eating for an entire day and how much we should be eating at each meal.

We finished by giving you some really good protein options.

Check it out…..oh and if you don’t mind, keep asking us questions by leaving a comment.

We want to answer the questions that YOU want to know. : )

Have an amazing day.

Fit Into Your Skinny Jeans in 4 Weeks

April 21st, 2008

It’s that time of year where the weather is getting warmer and you’d like to be able to fit into your skinny jeans and other sexy outfits that you may not have worn in awhile.

Your tightest pair of jeans won’t stand a chance against this fat-blasting lower-body cardio and sculpting routine that will whittle your waist, legs and butt in 4 weeks.

This is the perfect plan to flatten your belly, tone your thighs, firm your butt and blast fat everywhere.

Here’s the routine…

One legged step ups x 60 seconds (each leg)
Mountain climbers x 60 seconds
Side reaching lunges x 60 seconds
Jumping Lunges x 60 seconds
Knees to elbows x 60 seconds
Rest x 60 seconds

Perform 3 rounds.

It’s a short workout which will take you about 20 minutes.

It’s a non stop clock so move from exercise to exercise without resting.

This will get your heart rate pumping and spike your metabolism all day long.

If you are new to exercise and can’t perform 60 seconds of each one, no problem. Just shorten the work load to 30-45 seconds.

I recommend doing this routine 3 days per week on non consecutive days.

Add 2 or 3 days per week of high intensity interval training or hill sprints as well as a gut busting diet plan like The Carb Rotation Diet and you’ll be slipping into your skinny jeans in one month.

I would love to hear back if you try this routine and let me know what you think. Please leave your comments.

Have an amazing day,

Scott

Abs Diet Recipe - Spicy Turkey Meatloaf

April 18th, 2008

Hi - a lot of you commented that you wanted to start seeing some recipes so once a week, Jayson Hunter, author of The Carb Rotation Diet is going to provide the Abs Diet Recipe of the Week.

This one is spicy turkey meatloaf.

This recipe is loaded with disease fighting nutrients lycopene, lutein and zeaxanthin.

This recipe is also a great protein source.

It fits perfectly into the carb rotation diet as a no carb meal or combined with other foods on a low carb and high carb day.

You can also adjust the level of spiciness by adding more chili powder or less (down here in Texas, we like our meatloaf spicy!!)

1 package (10 oz) frozen spinach, defrosted and squeezed

1 cup chopped tomatoes

2 tsp oregano, dried

1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper

1 1/2 tbsp chili powder

1/2 cup canned corn, drained

1 1/4 pound ground turkey (93% lean)

1/4 cup chili sauce or ketchup

1/2 cups rolled oats (not quick cooking)

2 large egg whites, beaten until frothy

2 tsp garlic, minced

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375°F.

In a large bowl, using a fork, mix together oats, egg whites, and tomatoes. Blend in turkey, chili powder, oregano, garlic, chili sauce or ketchup, and pepper. Mix in spinach and corn.
Pack mixture firmly into a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan that has been lightly coated with cooking oil spray. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes or until juices run clear when meat loaf is pierced with a knife, or internal temperature registers 165°F. Remove from oven and let meat loaf sit at least 15 minutes before serving.

Yummy. This is making me hungry.

After you try the recipe I would love to get your feedback and comments.

So don’t be shy. Did you like this dish? Or is this a one and done (meaning you’ll never make it again)?

Enjoy!

Scott

Burn Your Belly Fat in Your Hotel

April 17th, 2008

Hey there,

I’m still here in beautiful Austin Texas, staying in the Hyatt, right on the outskirts of downtown.

There is so much to do here, so much to see, and beautiful scenery.

But I want to show you something indoors here in Austin, not outside.

I want to show you some hotel exercises for six-pack abs.

I know a lot of you go on business trips or vacations and you stay in a hotel and your workouts really suffer.

Your hotel may not have a quality fitness center, or even a fitness center at all.

Or maybe you think you don’t have any time to get in a workout.

Well I wanted to show you some exercises you can do right in your hotel room.

The hotel room I am in has a bench right at the end of the bed.

That’s what I used.

But these exercises would also work using a chair.

You might notice that none of these exercises are considered a traditional abs exercise except for the last one (the In/Out).

But I’m sure you know by now, I’m not a big fan of traditional abs exercises. ; )

However, your abs are working very hard on all of these exercises to stabilize your body.

For these exercises that I am showing you, the best thing you can do to burn belly fat is to do all of these exercises in a row without stopping.

I want you to get out of breath.

This will spike your metabolism and keep it elevated for several hours after your finished with the workout, helping you burn more calories.

Do about 12-15 reps of each exercises without taking a break.

Rest for a 60-90 seconds after your first round.

And then continue on for 2 more rounds.

Even if you’re not in a hotel, I want you to try this workout.

Try it at home with a chair or sofa, or even outside at a park bench.

Let me know what you think.

Did this workout get your heart rate up and have you breathing hard?

Do you think you might try this in your hotel?

Please leave your comments and share your experience. : )

Have an amazing day.

Scott

P.S. I was in such a hurry to get these exercises to you, I didn’t even change into my workout clothes. You’ll notice I am still wearing my jeans while doing the exercises. : )

Six-Pack Abs on the Road

April 16th, 2008
· Filed Under: Abs Exercise · Abs Nutrition

I am on a pretty good “abs diet” until my birthday at the end of this month to make sure that as I turn another year older I still have a flat stomach and six-pack abs.

However, I am on the road today and it is proving to be somewhat challenging.

I am actually in a car as I type this on my way to Austin, Texas.

I’m on a Carb Rotation diet, and fortunately this is a higher carb day today. : )

I just had lunch at Wendy’s of all places, where I had a grilled chicken sandwich.

Not exactly the healthiest place to eat, but I did pretty decent skipping the fries and soda.

Then I was at the gas station looking for some healthy snacks to eat on the rest of the trip.

Almost all I could find was rows and rows of junk food - candy bars, pringles, chips, crackers, twinkies, muffins, coffee cake, moon pies!

Moon pies!! Remember those things.

I was able to find a really really small section of healthier food and ended up getting some almonds and a Protein Plus PowerBar.

For my workouts while I’m in Austin, I will definitely be doing some shorter bodyweight interval circuits and some 4-minute circuits from the Four Minute Workout DVDs.

I’ll even try to film a couple of the workouts so you can see them.

Oh and guess what?

Austin is home to the first ever Whole Foods.

Maybe I’ll try and sneak in another grocery store tour. ; )

Have an amazing day.

Scott

Protein Options for Those That Don’t Eat Meat

April 15th, 2008

Howdy,

A question that I’ve received a lot lately are from people that don’t eat a lot of meat, or sometimes they are vegetarians and don’t eat any meat.

What they want to know is what are some other protein sources they can choose if they don’t eat meat and their options are a little bit more limited.

They especially need to know what to eat on their low and no carb days if they are on a carb rotation diet.

So this is what Jayson Hunter, author of The Carb Rotation Diet, and I talked about in our latest Q&A.

Jayson gave some great strategies and alternatives on what you can eat if you don’t eat a lot of meat, or even no meat.

Remember, Jayson is an internationally known registered dietician and will be with us each week.

If you are having any trouble with your diet and nutrition, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment and Jayson will be happy to answer your questions. : )

Have an amazing day.

Women’s Fat Loss

April 14th, 2008

Hi all,

I’m written before about my women’s fat loss bootcamp.

My camp members are a dedicated bunch and it is a pleasure to work with each of them.

I put together a video of some highlights of the first 3 months of bootcamp from 2008.

Included are some very inspirational before and after pictures.

Our workouts are always outdoors - proof that you don’t need a gym membership to change your body, or your life. : )

We also do lots of interval training to spike our metabolism, and include many 4 Minute Circuits.

This is the way I like to train too!

Enjoy.
