One Couple’s Fat Loss Journey

April 13th, 2008
· Filed Under: Abs Exercise · Abs Nutrition · Uncategorized

Howdy,

I had the pleasure of interviewing Scott and Angie Tousignant last week about their fat loss journey.

They were gracious enough to share their personal story with me.

Scott and Angie are a married couple living in Canada with 2 kids, ages 6 and 4.

Scott is the author of The Fit Bastard and The Fit Chic and is a fitness expert that I’ve talked to many times.

But just like what happens to so many of us, Scott had recently gotten out of shape and was 35 pounds overweight.

Angie is a mom who has had 2 babies, her last one delivered by C-section.

They say you can’t get a flat stomach and six-pack abs after a C-section, right?

Wrong!! : )

Scott and Angie shared their story with me in a private interview.

I am happily sharing it with you.

They revealed the nutrition plan they were on, the importance of doing this as a team, the types of workouts they did, and one very important strategy they used to stay motivated during their entire transformation.

You can learn more about the workouts that they used in their fat loss journey.

Ladies should check out The Fit Chic and guys, check out The Fit Bastard

Enjoy their story.

Have an amazing day.

Scott

3 Vital Principles You Must Know to Burn Fat Faster

April 11th, 2008

This article which reveals 3 strategies to burn fast faster was written by my friend Rob Poulos, creator of The Fat Burning Furnace.

By now, most people realize that adding lean muscle mass to your body does wonders for your metabolism and fat loss, as well as a host of other benefits that allow you to live out your life as healthy as possible. Unfortunately, most people I see performing weight training or resistance training at the gym are spending too much time with the exercise and not working hard enough. They’re not going to burn very much fat this way. The secret I’ve found is that training for lean muscle and strength requires the proper application of three vital elements that are often ignored by those who attempt it. Those three elements are:

-Intensity

-Volume & Frequency

-Progression

The intensity is how hard it is to perform for you, given your current condition. The volume and frequency are how much and how often you perform the exercise. The progression is related to how much the demands increase from workout to workout. Most times, weight training, is carried on for too long and performed too many times per week. It is unfortunately treated much the same way as so-called fat burning aerobic exercise. But they are vastly different forms of exercise. In fact, they’re complete opposites.

Aerobic exercise typically is characterized by low to moderate intensity, high volume and frequency, and little progression. Anaerobic exercise, or weight training, must be performed at a high intensity, lower volume and frequency, and with progression to be as effective as possible. No amount of weight training performed at a low or moderate intensity will provide significant muscle or strength building benefit beyond the first few weeks. On a high level view, it is simply the combination of sufficient intensity, coupled with attempting to increase either the number of repetitions of a weight training exercise or the amount of weight used each and every workout that will keep your body evolving into the ultimate fat burning machine!

You also have to pay attention to other details when creating an effective and efficient routine to maximize your workout and minimize your time spent in the gym. Why? Because perhaps even more important that the workout itself is the rest period that follows. You’re not going to get stronger or more muscular if you don’t rest.

You see, when you strength train properly, you are creating tiny injuries to your muscles. You then have to let the body repair itself, and then overcompensate and build upon the already existing amount of muscle mass you have. If you workout again before that process in completed, you’ll experience lackluster, if any, muscle building or fat burning results. So make sure to get proper rest between workouts, which typically means a minimum of 1 to 3 full days of rest between properly executed resistance workouts.

Now upon hearing the idea that you’ve got add muscle to your body to ensure the maximum fat burning environment, a lot of people, women especially, start thinking, “But I don’t want to get bigger, I want to lose weight!” But this is such a shame, because it’s very unlikely to happen, and countless women are losing out on these fat burning benefits because of it. You see, most men and almost all women simply lack the necessary genetic traits required to produce such muscle gains that would cause them to look bulky or overly-developed to most people. These traits include testosterone levels, muscle fiber makeup, muscle belly length, and others.

Those competitive bodybuilders you’ve seen on TV and in the magazines are the genetic cream of the crop for muscle development and they are typically on heavy doses of anabolic steroids, growth hormone, and other bodybuilding drugs. Don’t be fooled by these images, or those that scare you into thinking this way. Also, lean muscle is more compact that fat, as it takes up less space in your body, so you will actually be getting smaller when replacing the fat on your body with lean muscle.

Please understand that you’re putting yourself in the best position to succeed with your fat loss and fitness goals when you perform properly conducted intense resistance training, no matter who you are. But make sure you understand and apply the three critical principles I discussed above. If you don’t, you’ll ultimately be unhappy with your results, both in your ability to burn fat and realize the lean, strong, and healthy body you deserve.

I have some ideas of what I want to include in this system.

But I need to hear from you!

What would you like this bikini ready abs system to include.

I don’t want to influence what you come up with, but some things I have thought about have been an e-book of all the exercises and workouts, videos of the exercises and workouts including the infamous 4-minute circuits.

I want to include some audios of mindset experts and success stories…success stories from women just like you.

And of course your diet! What would you like to see in terms of nutrition and diet? Do you need more information about the Carb Rotation Diet? Do you need recipes?

I also will start a support community so you can post your before/after photos and help each other out and keep each other accountable.

So…. it’s up to you.

What do you need from me to help you get bikini ready abs?

The sky’s the limit. Don’t hold back!

This should be fun. Please let me know what you want and add it to the Comments section.

A Simple Strategy to Create the Ultimate Beach Body

April 8th, 2008
· Filed Under: Abs Nutrition · Podcasts

Howdy,

It’s Tuesday and once again I did a Q&A with registered dietician, Jayson Hunter author of The Carb Rotation Diet and we talked about a simple strategy to create the ultimate beach body.

Carb rotating or carb cycling is becoming a more well known way of eating in recent months.

In fact, it’s the exact diet strategy that I used to get a flat stomach and six-pack abs.

(By the way, I am being really strict on my diet once again until the end of the month when it’s my birthday. I may ever do another photo shoot. : ) )

Jayson and I talked for about 10 minutes on exactly why carb rotating is so effective for fat loss.

He also talked about the differences between different types of carb rotating diets, specifically the differences between the high, low and no carb rotation versus the 3 days of low carbs followed by a high carb day.

But speaking from personal experience, carb rotating is the way to go if you want to blast your belly fat, look sexy in your swimsuit, AND still be able to eat your favorite foods.

Take a look at Jayson’s Carb Rotation Diet.

Also, don’t forget, after listening to the audio, please leave your Comments and ask any questions that you have for Jayson so he can answer them.

Have an amazing day.

Abs Exercises for Those With Weak Wrists

April 7th, 2008

Howdy!

Last week I showed you a video of 5 of my favorite exercises for sexy abs.

Four of them involved being in a push up position where you are putting some weight on your wrists.

Some of you wrote in and said that you had weak wrists and you couldn’t sustain the pressure of your bodyweight.

This is very understandable and I’ve heard this from people before, especially in this day in age of carpel tunnel syndrome.

Well if this is you, I’ve got some very effective exercises that you can try that still work your abs very hard.

Again, none of these involve lying on your back.

Remember, I’m not a fan of those types of exercises where you are lying on your back as your abs are relaxed for part of the movement.

The exercises shown here still work your abs for the entire movement.

I’m going to show you some exercises that you can do on your forearms, as well as some of the same exercises as last week, but with your hands placed on a pair of dumbbells rather than on the ground.

Placing your hands on dumbbells takes considerable pressure off your wrists and will help reduce the strain.

Please try out these exercises. For those with weak wrists, I would love to hear some feedback as to whether or not these actually were better.

Did your wrists still hurt while performing the movements?

Please leave your comments. : )

Have an amazing day.

What Can You Learn From a Cat About Exercise

April 4th, 2008

I know it sounds crazy.

What CAN you learn from a cat about exercise?

I used to have this cat named Allie - I actually shared her with an ex girlfriend Shana.

Allie was one rambunctious cat, I’ll tell you that right now.

But very fun to play with and full of energy and zest.

Allie made up her own playground - the fold out thing that you hang clothes on to dry.

For the life of me I don’t know what that’s called, but anyway…

We captured her on film one day, having fun on her playground - actually a little too much fun - and something happened at the end that makes me crack up every time I see it.

When it comes to exercise, I think Allie has taught us to try something new, challenge yourself, and have fun….but don’t do what she did at the end. : )

Go find YOUR playground. And if you have kids, take them too.

Enjoy!

Scott
P.S. Allie is in a new home with a puppy friend, and getting quite fat, so I hear. Maybe her playground days are over. : )

The Secrets to Getting Amazing Lower Abs

April 3rd, 2008
· Filed Under: Abs Exercise · Podcasts

It’s been a fun week of talking about sexy abs and looking amazing for beach season.

But what about those lower abs?

I always get questions on how to lose the lower belly flab and what are the best exercises to do so.

Well I brought in another expert, Craig Ballantyne, the author of Turbulence Training to talk about the lower abs - a body part that so many people have trouble with.

I interviewed Craig for two reasons -

#!) His clients are getting phenomenal results with Turbulence Training.

#2) Craig has put together the Amazing Lower Abs Workout, and he’s giving it away the entire month of April when you purchase his Turbulence Training program by April 30.

Check out the 12 minute interview with Craig and I.

He gave some great strategies on how to get your lower abs looking as sexy as possible.

If you have any questions or comments, I would love your feedback in the Comments section.

Have an amazing day!

5 Exercises for Sexy Abs

April 2nd, 2008

Howdy,

We all know that beach season is coming up.

Time to ramp up your workouts to look fabulous in a bikini and turn heads in your swimsuit.

We all want sexy abs. I know I do.

I’ve put together a short video of my of my favorite exercises for sexy abs.

You’ll notice that none of these videos involved laying on your back or doing crunches and sit ups.

When you lay on your back and do abs exercises, your abs are relaxed for part of the movement and not working.

In a push up position or standing position, your abs are working hard the entire time.

If you can master these exercises, your abs will be in great shape.

If you have your diet in order, your abs will be showing in no time.

To get the best results for your abs, I would suggest a carb rotation diet.

This is the type of diet I used to get my abs looking as lean and defined as possible.

Ok, the exercises that I love for sexy abs are…

Bear Crawls
Elevated Spiderman Push Ups
Mountain Jumpers
Diagonal Mountain Climbers
Knees to Elbows

These exercises hit your abs from every angle.

And even better, a lot of other muscles are getting a great workout too!

I would love to hear what you think after trying these.

Which was your favorite abs exercise? Which one was the hardest to perform?

Please leave your feedback in the Comments section.

Have an amazing day.

Scott
