A Flaw In My Pull Up Technique2 Comments

Topics: Abs Exercise

So my buddy Jerry Hill of the Cross Fit Old Town TV Show watched my pull up videos and noticed a flaw in my pull up technique.

He said I was not standing underneath the bar enough when I was initially starting my pull ups.

In other words, the bar was out in front of me too much.

This caused my arms (the smaller muscles) to do a lot more of the work than my larger back muscles.

An inefficient and much harder way to do pull ups.  You need to get those larger back muscles more involved so you can crank out more reps.

I changed my technique as Jerry suggested and my pull up training is going much better.

I’ll keep you updated on my quest to 20 pull ups.

Scott

    Hey buddy,

What’s up? Once you hit those 20, you’ll be in line for Pavel’s one arm pull ups. He says you should be able to do 20 continuously before you try them. I’m rooting for ya!

    Hi Scott,

I’ve been following your blog and you’ve inspired me. I’m probably gonna regret this, but I’m going to publicly give myself a pull up challenge-right here, right now. I’ve always told my clients that accountability helps them stay focused, so I’m giving myself some by asking you to be my accountability partner.

I know your goal is 20 by Thanksgiving. I can currently to 1-2 unassisted pull ups (palms facing each other) right now. I’m thinking completing 8 by Thanksgiving should be a challenge (I’m not as young as you!). Whadya think? Do I need to submit a video so you and Jerry Hill can critique my form?? :-)
