I'm one of Dr. Siegal's Arizona customers and I've lost 35 pounds on the Cookie Diet (25 in the first 6 weeks). One thing I love about this diet is it's so convenient. Sure, if I had the time and money to eat the way you recommend I woudn't need cookies, but with these you just grab a bag in the morning and go. I used to hit the drive-thrus and binge often but the cookies have retrained me into eating some protein every few hours. Cookie Diet customers are encouraged to eat lean proteins like chicken, fish or turkey plus lots of vegetables, and we also take a multivitamin and mineral pill (a supply comes with the cookies). The 800 calorie dinner is in addition to the cookies which have 90 calories, 5 grams of protein and 2 grams of fiber each. Now that I'm at my goal weight I use the cookies in between meals to keep me from getting hungry and help me make the right food choices. As for the taste, they're not very sweet because they ony have 2 grams of sugar, but they've eliminated my sweet tooth. The Oatmeal Raisin are my favorites. Don't knock the Cookie Diet; it may not be for everybody but it's what I needed to drop four dress sizes and feel good about how I look.

Thank you Scott. Interesting, informative and lively as usual, though glad to see that you are not mistreating innocent pumpkins. This seems like one of the most ridiculous diets imaginable. As you say, eat simple whole foods, adequate dietary fibre, plentiful fruit and vegetables and exercise. If you want to loose weight/fat, keep glycaemia load/index low and possibly cut down on potato, pasta and bread on alternate days except as pre/post workout.

Thanks Scott,
I think I had my laugh for today. That is definitely one diet I would stay away from especially since it's one of my weakness. I couldn't imagine not eating full meals and small snacks throughout the day. And I would definitely get sick of the same nasty tasting cookies day in and out. NO this is just another fad and great for lazy people who want the easy way out (temporarily)! Get off your tush, get moving, and start eating supportive foods (fruits, veggies, whole grain, and lean meat). It took time for that fat to come on your body it'll take time for it to come off. It's sad the minds of these inventors: are they really trying to help people or just make that quick buck.

Scott;
Thanks for sharing!!Here in Canada I saw this Cookie Diet being promoted and sold in health food stores!!Interesting that he is a doctor and he is promoting trying to suppress hunger AND lose weight!Hunger is a natural response to needing to being fed and preferably with wholefood ingredients!A person's body will respond with whatever it is forced to eat whether it is healthy or unhealthy!The real test to how good it is if 10 years down the road people are actually looking and feeling good as well as getting the same results as well as being nutritionally sound..This seems to be the results of what our doctors are learning after years of training in the medical schools!!Doctors need to learn to work with the body and not aggainst it!!!Thanks for sharing!!Helen

It's amusing to me that combating hunger is Dr. Siegal's main thrust. Does it not occur to him that if people overindulge in empty calories (although I haven't seen the ingredients, but I'll be willing to stick my neck out there and say his cookies probably qualify as such) that their bodies will hunger for real nutrition? And if we put a bandage on that in the form of suppressing hunger, then we are not solving the problem of malnutrition? Even overweight people can be malnourished...

In other words, combating hunger is the wrong target. How about combating inactivity and poor eating habits?

Heck, I bet I can whip up a cookie that will have him scream for mercy and lose weight! ;) Ha!

This cookie diet is just another bogus money scheme which, in my opinion is less than believable. First of all, looking at that severely overweight man wouldn't motivate me for nothing! I can't believe someone would look at that guy and say "Hey, that's a success story" Further, it baffles my mind that a Board Certified Doctor would promote such a thing… Living on such few calories and not getting fresh fruits, veggies, lean meats… Is the cookie diet a lifestyle change or what? Not!!!! Shame on that Doctor!! He knows better….

Well, it's bad these diets exist. It's good because it gives us something to talk about ;-) It really is extraordinary how short-sighted people are. Does anyone really think they're going to eat these cookies for the rest of their lives?

And the mainstream media...what bunch of dipsh*ts. Unless that was a paid placement I don't know how the hell he got that on air.

Good job Scott.
You hit the nail on the head.

The amazing thing to me is the fact that this diet gets so much attention.
People would rather eat cookies all day and one meal at night, than simply change their eating regimen to healthy whole foods.

Your exposure of this "scam diet" and your suggestions for healthy eating are much appreciated.

This disgusts me. It just show how little willpower and how lazy we are now. We only want to lose weight if it sounds good. Sickening.
