Get a Flat Stomach in Just 7.5 Minutes a Week3 Comments
I’ve written before that I think sprints may be THE best exercise to help you get a flat stomach. When you run sprints, not only do you get into your anaerobic threshold, spiking your metabolism and keeping it elevated for several hours after your workout (allowing you to burn more fat calories), but your abs are contracted and working very hard for the entire sprint helping to stabilize your body. New research is showing that you can get significant health benefits from only 7.5 minutes of training per week, in the form of sprinting on a track, running up the stairs, or on a stationary bike.
The research subjects sprinted hard for 30 seconds, and rested for 4 minutes for 4-6 rounds. So four rounds would be 2 minutes of actual work (not including the rest), six rounds would be 3 minutes of actual work. They found that sprinting can actually help prevent type 2 diabetes after only 2 weeks. Sprinting “substantially improved their ability to metabolize glucose (sugar). Traditional aerobic exercise programs can boost sensitivity to the key blood-sugar-regulating hormone insulin. The high-intensity program did this too, but it also directly reduced the men’s blood sugar levels — something that standard exercise programs have not been shown to do.”

Scott,
How does this compare to 30 / 30 work rest intervals?
Also the article mentions ages 20-40. will it benefit us over 40?
Thanks
Mike

Great to know a bit of cardio is “back”. Now yes I do understand it’s intervals not jogging

This is similar to the Tabata protocol. 20 seconds on and 10 off
Greatest workout I’ve ever done.
