Having A Bad Hair Day?36 Comments

This was a newsletter that I wrote in 2006, I believe, after I got back from a trip to Las Vegas. I met a really cool flight attendant who shared some wisdom with me. Here is the story…
============================
I was flying back from Las Vegas Sunday night. Our flight had been delayed an hour and a half and everyone was a little bit grumpy.
But then I met a flight attendant named Lorraine. Lorraine was a 60-something year old woman that made everyone on the plane laugh with her jokes and magic tricks. That’s right, I said magic tricks. I’ve never had a flight attendant perform magic before.
Anyway, she was full of positive energy and she also had these sheets of paper with words of wisdom and positive quotes and I asked her if I could keep them (don’t worry, she had several more copies). She gladly let me have them and wanted me to share them with as many people as I could.
This one is called Bad Hair Day
- If you woke up in the morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.
- If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.
- If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75 percent of this world.
- If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace, you are among the top 8 of the world’s wealthy.
- If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful, you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not.
- If you can read this message, you just received a double blessing in that someone was thinking of you and, furthermore, you are more blessed than over 2 billion people in the world who cannot read at all.
So, when you feel very down, just remember how blessed you are.
- A. Edwards, London England
Each person is responsible for their own face! If you want to be happy YOU need to put a smile on it!
Thanks for sharing, Lorraine!
Yours in Health

Jim Labadie is absolutely correct. If you're reading this you are a lot better off than most people. Now, why not do something to make someone's life better? All it takes is a smile or a sincere hello to the person in the checkout line, the person who takes your toll or parking fee, the police officer or firefighter on the street… whomever you encounter. Not only will you make their day brighter, but you will feel better no matter how down you feel. It doesn't cost anything and everybody wins!

It's always good to be reminded of the things I often forget as I get caught up in the truly insignificant irritations of a given day. Thank you for the perspective and for helping to provide an important element of health and fitness: positive outlook and gratefulness.

I have always believed that life gives us no guarantees, only presents us with challenges – it is how we respond to these challenges that count – that gives us our strength, dignity, humility and compassion – I waken each day and say, " C'mon life, bring " it" on and I'll show you how fabulous I am !!!"

Thanks for the elbow jab into reality. I am guilty of whining over trivial notions, and ought to begin each day with the words you've passed on. Thank you!

This is great! Sometimes we need to be reminded of how much we have. We spend so much time in life thinking of what we don't have, we forget to be thankful for what we have. Your emails are always positive and inspiring keep them coming.

your next blessing is as close as your current obedience.

Thanks Scott! We sometimes forget….

Definitely puts things in perspective, doesn't it? I have this wonderful image of Lorraine, passing on her bright spirit and outlook to all the people she comes in contact with, and how the ripples go out from there – including you posting this for everyone on your list to be touched by it. That's really how this works, we pass along the radiant energy, with or without the words!

Having just recently gone through a divorce, a clinical depression and losing my job, I am extremely greatful for having had the strength to get through it all. I smile everyday and constantly remind myself how lucky I am to be where I am. Thank you for your inspiring story.

This leads me to think that there are so many hurting people out there who could really use a helping hand. Not just feel I have it better than others but I am able to help those who might really need it. Thanks for waking me up!

Thank you Scott, I cried my eyes out this morning becuse the floors in the old house I am rennovating look awful after I paid a significant amount to have them refinished – this made me realize how lucky I am to have a house and the money (or at least the credit) to work on it. Usually I don't get so upset – Still have to come up with a plan, but now I see how insignificant it is the overall picture…

Hi Scot,
these words are truly inspiring and should appreciate what we have been blessed with by god before craving and crying for more and to enjoy what we have rather thancrying for what we do not have.

This is so true. All of us really need to be thankful for what we have right now. It is only when you are grateful for what have right now will the universe conspire to give you more. Great post Scott.

Scott, I always look at life as if, I am here for a reason and a purpose. God doesn't make junk. So with that said, I am always smiling and people always ask me why I am always smiling. I tell them, Life is good! No matter how bad you think you have it; someone has it harder. Always appreicate what you have and share with others. The Lord blesses you and in return you should share what little or a lot you have.
