Oprah Winfrey Says She Weighs 200 Pounds11 Comments
I just read this article that said Oprah Winfrey weighs 200 pounds.
“I’m mad at myself,” Winfrey wrote in an article…
“I’m embarrassed,” she writes. “I can’t believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I’m still talking about my weight. I look at my thinner self and think, `How did I let this happen again?’”
We often think of celebrities and their amazing bodies and we say to ourselves, “of course that person has an amazing body. They are rich and can afford to hire a personal trainer and chef and dietitian to work with them around the clock.”
So what happened with Oprah?
How come she has fallen off the wagon once again.
Well one place she went wrong, I believe, is that she focused too much on the scale and “being thin.”
We all know that a scale doesn’t not differentiate between muscle and fat.
A scale does not tell you how strong you are.
A scale does not say anything about your fitness level.
Your weight can fluctuate greatly from day to day depending on how hydrated you are.
So in summary, throw away your scale.
Oprah now says she wants to focus on being “strong, healthy, and fit.”
I think this is awesome, but I would still want her to define some very specific and measurable goals (think of my 4 performance goals I recently tried to tackle).
Another place where Oprah went wrong is that she went on too many diets where she really deprived herself of a lot of the foods that she liked to eat.
From the article…
“Winfrey famously wheeled a wagon loaded with fat onto the set of her talk show in 1988 to represent a 67-pound weight loss while wearing a pair of size 10 Calvin Klein jeans. She had lost the pounds with a liquid protein diet.
“I had literally starved myself for four months — not a morsel of food,” Winfrey recalled in 2005. “Two hours after that show, I started eating to celebrate — of course, within two days those jeans no longer fit!”"
So there are lots of diets out there right?
Some of them are very unhealthy, like the liquid protein diet, like Oprah went on
And some of them are healthy, and not even what I would consider a diet, like Jayson Hunter’s Carb Rotation Diet.
Even though The Carb Rotation Diet has the word diet in the title, I don’t consider it a true diet as you don’t have to deprive yourself of your favorite foods.
It’s more of an eating strategy that Jayson as put together that allows you to eat your favorite foods, and lose body fat at the same time.
And remember, we’re talking about losing fat…not weight.
Anyway I would love to hear your opinions on Oprah’s struggles with her weight.
Her weight certainly has gone up and down like a yo-yo.
Please share your comments.
Have an amazing day.
Scott

Yes, i have read the book that Bob Greene talked about food and losing weight. I do agree with Scott here– mostly all fad diets do not work– we are so bombard with fast and quick weight loss. I will tell you one thing– one fitness and workout at a time will do the trick! With the right amount of food intake and right calories will also do the trick too. Not many do eat right or take the right amount of calories. i am fed up with many diet weight loss center telling them lies. What they do not know it is a hard work- yes, they don't admit it do not want to work all that hard- what bout you? I like working out hard and eat healthy food. think about it. yes, throw the scale away and just look at yourself in the mirror– mirrors do not lie!! ben

With trainers, chefs, and motivators at her beck and call; she still had to do the work. She couldn’t pay someone to do it for her. Oprah is often the topic when my clients sit around and chat after a session and they feel the same. I do believe that once her focus becomes optimal health and wellness she may find it easier to drop the pounds. Hopefully she won’t throw caution to the wind, but still maintain some type of fitness plan. If anyone can testify that restrictive diets don’t work, O can.

I don’t watch Oprah while on the treadmill…and I feel for her because all the money in the world cannot solve your weight problems (or any other for that matter)..I know from my own self that in order to lose weight, gain muscle, be healthy you have to really want it..I hope for her that she really wants to be healthy and fit..maybe you can be her mentor, her trainer..you help so many people to achieve their goals. I am with the help from you and your peers on my way to achieving my goal..and I thank you. You rock!!

Scott,
Great post!
Oprah has got caught in the diet funnel.
She needs to put as much energy into herself as she does her company. That includes mission statement and vision statement.
I also wrote a post on Oprah on my blog – http://healingthroughmovement.blogspot.com/

The article also refers to Oprah’s out-of-balance thyroid. Recently I was also diagnosed with an under-active thyroid, so my biggest fear is that I will end up an extremely overweight person.
Scott, can you give any advice with regards to thyroid problems?
I do belief if you work-out regularly (for me that is daily) and continue with healthy eating habits, this can be managed succesfully. But I would really appreciate advice to get rid of my “overweight”-fear.

I think Oprah should hire you, Scott. First of all she would be doing herself a huge favor… 2nd she would put you on the map big time! They say don’t look for Oprah, Oprah looks for you. I hope she reads your post!

Scott;
Even with money the saying still stands that we are what we eat and even though she is famous it doesn’t change the fact her body functions the same way ours do!!Helen
