High Fructose Corn Syrup Commercials

September 15th, 2008

I just watched two television commercials that said high fructose corn syrup is ok to eat.

Are you kidding me?

Is this what we’ve come to?

Are we now just waving the white flag and giving up?

Are we saying that obesity is fine and dandy?

Are we saying that the rise in Type II Diabetes doesn’t mean anything to us?

Are you OK with your kids getting sick and fat and diseased?

Do you want to continue to put this type of garbage in your body?

Look, High Fructose Corn Syrup is 20% cheaper than sugar.

It’s a 4.5 BILLION dollar industry.

It came to the market in the late 70’s, obesity levels at that time were stable.

Now 50% of our sweeteners are HFCS derived.

Per person consumption is at a 73.5 lbs PER YEAR.

That’s a lot of sweetener!!

Obesity rates in teens have TRIPLED

You do the math.

These kinds of commercials need to be banned from the airways as soon as possible.

If you haven’t seen the commercials I’m talking about, you can view them below.

And I would love for you to leave your comments.

Have an amazing day.

Scott

Find a Workout in Your Community

March 3rd, 2008

Howdy!

Almost every Saturday morning at 9:00 here in Dallas, I run a free workout for the community. It’s an outdoor workout, and we always have a fun time and get in a great workout. Below is a picture of the group that came out for the workout this past Saturday.

You can easily find a free workout in your community. There is an online resource called Meetup, where you can search for fitness groups and workouts in your local area.

Whether you are looking for a walking group, or a bootcamp style workout, chances are that you can find one in your area on Meetup.

Not all of the Meetup groups are free, but a lot of them are. My Saturday morning workout group is called the Playground Fitness Club and I have chosen to make these workouts free as a way for me to give back to the community.

If you are looking for a walking group in your area and can’t find one, you can start one yourself. Once you create your group, other people on Meetup who search for fitness groups in your area will see yours and become a member of your group.

Soon enough you’ll have a whole big group of people in your community coming together for a fun workout.

Starting or joining a workout group in your community is one of the best things you can do to help get rid of obesity in this world once and for all.

Check out my good friend Scott Tousignant’s Obliterate Obesity Report that gives you other ways that you can help put an end to this terrible epidemic. You can download it on his new blog called Obliterate Obesity. Enter in your name and email address at the upper right hand corner of his blog, and the report will be emailed to you.

Do you have any other ideas on how we can get rid of obesity? What else can you or I do in our communities? Please share your comments below.

Have a great day!

Scott

How You Can Help Wipe Out Obesity

February 29th, 2008

Happy Friday!

I’ve got great news to share with you. A strategy has been developed to wipe out obesity from the face of this planet. However, it requires your help. Yes YOU - I’m asking you to please get involved.

I don’t know if you know this or not, but there have been predictions by health researchers that by the year 2015, three quarters of North America will be obese.

We can’t let this happen. I can’t and neither can you.

My good friend Scott Tousignant has developed a plan to wipe out obesity. Poof! Gone!

He has asked me for my help and of course, I’m in!

For this to work, we need your help too.

So, the first 3 things I would like for you to are the following:

1) Scott Tousignant has written The Obliterate Obesity Report. What I would like you to do is to go to Scott’s website - Unstoppable Fat Loss, download the report, and read it. You’ll have to enter in your name and email address, so Scott knows where to send the report. By the way, when you request the report, Scott will also send you an mp3 file on how to have Unstoppable motivation.

2) Scott and I did a short interview about his plans to obliterate obesity, get rid of it altogether, and what you can do to help. We need your help. Please listen to the interview below.

3) Please share your comments on the blog about what you plan to do to help us, or any questions you might have. Or maybe you have some of your own great ideas on how to get rid of obesity. We would love to hear anything you have to say. This is going to take a united effort, but together we can do it. We have the power to do anything.

Thanks for your help. : )

Have a wonderful weekend.

Is Starbucks to Blame for Rising Obesity?

January 31st, 2008
· Filed Under: Abs Nutrition · Podcasts

Starbucks offers a wide variety of high calorie and high fat drinks and food choices. Is Starbucks making you fat? This is the subject of Episode #2 of the Great Fat Loss Debate with Scott Colby, Scott Tousignant and special guest, Kevin Gianni. Is Starbucks contributing to the rising obesity trend in adults and children? Well their menu would certainly suggest it. A lot of their pastries and snacks are nearly 500 calories. Some of their drinks can be nearly 1000 calories depending on what you order.

For example, a piece of no sugar added banana nut coffee cake has 480 calories and 28 grams of fat. You may have thought that this would be a healthy option based on the words, “no sugar added” but you would be wrong.

A grande peppermint white chocolate mocha with 2% milk and whipped cream is 530 calories and 18 grams of fat. So if you have the no sugar added coffee cake and a grande peppermint white mocha with whipped cream, you’ve consumed 1010 calories and 46 grams of fat. Wow!

Of course, there are ways to make your drinks healthier or less healthy by the size of the drink, the type of milk, the type of syrup, whether or not you add whipped cream, etc. So then it’s a matter of personal responsibility. It is up to you to be responsible for your own health and make wise choices.

I personally go to Starbucks almost every day, but I usually order a black coffee.

Should Starbucks be doing more to help fight the cause against obesity? They do a nice job listing nutrition information on their website - www.starbucks.com. Should they be doing more?

You want to know what we think? Well you’ll have to listen to Scott, Kevin and I debate the topic.

Simply click on the audio player below to listen to this weeks Great Fat Loss Debate and then take a moment to share your thoughts and feelings about the podcast.

What would you like Starbucks to do to help combat the rising trend in obesity?
