TV Appearance76 Comments
In a couple of hours I’m headed to a local TV station to be interviewed about how to lose belly fat and to demonstrate some exercises and workouts. I’m headed there with one of my bootcamp members.
I’m not that good with my fashion sense so I need your help. Do I go with more of a scruffy look, like the second photo on here with me and some of my camp members. Or do I go with more of a clean cut, shaved look, like the first picture with me and my sister Jill. Do I smile and joke around a lot or keep things serious and professional? How about what I should wear? What do you think looks good on TV in regards to color and such?
Please leave your comments right here on the blog and help me!
Thank you!
Scott

I think the first look would be best. Also a light hearted conversation probably would be good. You know real human being with a good message. Good Luck!
3:52 pm
Scott,
Definitely go with the clean cut look, it'll add credibility and wear something to show off your physique, maybe a tshirt/khaki's or something….black and tan or blue/tan. Good luck!! (I'm a woman btw, not a man)
3:54 pm
yo Scott,
I vote Clean shaven!!
Good luck and make sure you get a copy of that video!!!!

3:56 pm
Scott i'd go with the first look
very professional. Be sure to smile. Those dimples are killers.
3:57 pm
Why are they interviewing you? If it is fitness related, which I am assuming it is, then wear a bright colored fitted athletic T and gym shorts that either match or have some of the same color it them (stripes etc) You want to wear bright colors on TV, avoid whites and blacks, Don't wear a hat.
3:57 pm
I vote for the clean cut look in the first pic… and for attire, try a crisp white polo shirt with khaki pants. I suggest to go for the professional look, but keep the banter light and fun – TV is for entertainment – joke around and have fun with your host! Have a GREAT time! You'll do awesome!!
Best,
Rebecca
3:58 pm
Clean cut-work out wear-black is always a winner! Mix it up funny and serious! You want people to enjoy themselves while they work out-make it fun!!
3:58 pm
I'm more of a scruff girl, but I think for the interview should should go clean cut.
As far as what to wear…..business casual, or something you would wear to a fitness convention. I like your skin tone, and would suggest you wear something of a deep, gem color…..ruby red or sapphire blue….emerald green! LOL! Stay away from the neutral colors.
Have a great interview!
3:59 pm
Clean cut, professional with a sense of humour! Not knowing what the set looks like, go for navy blue – works with most backgrounds.
3:59 pm
Scruffy does not come across too well on TV – I would go with the cleaner look! (Just my opinion of course!) Also gives the impression you care for your body if you look shaven and tidy!
Good Luck – hope it goes well!
4:00 pm
Wear blue cause that looks good on you. Go clean shaven but go ahead and have fun! Don't be stuffy – act like you enjoy what you are talking about as I know you do!!
4:00 pm
I like the clean look in the first picture. For colors and clothing – keep it simple – no crazy patterns or color combinations that would be distracting for the folks looking. Don't crack jokes if that is not your natural style, if it is – go for it. Be you!
4:04 pm
Clean cut, always put on the professional look.
4:05 pm
Clean cut wins, and I'm no exception even if I am your Mom. If you have to demonstrate wear something comfortable; please be sure it isn't wrinkled!
4:05 pm
Agree with the clean cut shaken look. As far as fashion sense, you need something that suits all genders and demographics – hence business casual. You'll look more poised and comfortable (translates to successful and knowledgeable abt topic).
4:08 pm
I'd go with the clean cut but since you will be demonstrating exercises, wear fitness gear. A fitted shirt that shows you are fit & live what you preach. I"d stay away from anything printed on your shirt as you want the audience to be drawn to you, not what you're wearing. You have a great smile so smile a lot. Be down to earth, friendly but not joking around as you want them to take you seriously. Good luck.
4:10 pm
Hey Scott, congrats on the interview. personally i like your second look but guess for the interview the first would look better. Whatever you wear be sure you are comfortable in them and they are YOU….depending on the backdrop they have you should wear the opposite to stand out more and defintely wear something to accentuate your killer body!! i love black…go for it and kill'em buddy!!!
4:11 pm
Hi Scott. It's Jenell Here. I would say clean cut as most everyone else. Also be yourself. Be kind and personable and smile alot. Relax and have fun, what you have to say is important and real and it works so if you just tell that in a relaxed approachable way the audience will relate to you. Not like an infomercial but like a friend who is interested in their well being. Kick butt and Just Do It!!
4:12 pm
You already know my opinion. Remember what I gave you for Christmas?
Also smiling is always best but keep it professional. Not too many jokes. Nice fitness attire – no baseball cap.
Good luck!! Love ya!
Jill
P.S. I wish I didn't look fat in that pic…
4:13 pm
hi scott,
really dying to start on it.
hey! i can say you can carry yourself whatever kind of look you project, in person or on TV.. you have good looks and that confidence in you right?… what i mean is you're a fitness expert guy and what matters are the health and exercise tips you will give and demo to your audience, just add some spice of humor on them so it will be a bit of fun….
but if you insist, i'll go for the "clean cut" look.
hope this helps….
btw I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all those very helpful pointers and exercises you've been giving us for the past months though i haven't tried them yet esp the basic first 6 pack…
More power to you!
Goodluck in your interview.. know you can DO it!! GO GO GO!

4:13 pm
scruff…be different- you are, and that anti-clean cut may be quite appealing~
4:13 pm
As if……….anyone would pick scruffy! :O) But look at the response you get, good marketing lesson!
4:14 pm
I vote clean cut, professional! Solid colors, don't overthink it. Choose something that you feel good in. Feel good=look good. Inside always radiats out.
Stick to your fun loving personality and enthusiasm and you will be more than fine.
Good luck and above all else…SMILE and RELAX!
4:17 pm
I agree with everyone else…clean shaven, business casual, no crazy patterns or logos that they would have to censor. Be yourself…that is what will come across the best…if you try to be something you're not, it will come off as forced and awkward. Break a leg!!!
4:21 pm
Clean Cut, Wear solid Red or Black Tee or Oxford style shirt and gym or dress shorts accordingly. Keep it light and do not force the comedy, natural and honest is better.
btw, is your sister Jill available, she is SMOKN?
Good Luck!
4:22 pm
Clean shaven. Joke around… losing that belly fat is FUN!!! and so are the workouts. Be serious and professional at the same time, is that possible? I like the darker color
4:23 pm
Clean cut look
4:26 pm
I'll say clean cut and I agree with Jill No baseball cap. Just be yourself! Buena Suerte!
4:30 pm
Since the Stanley Cup Playoffs/Finals are over clean look is probably better…Just be yourself and you'll do GREAT!
4:30 pm
I'm glad that I'm voting along with the majority – - – clean shaven. With regards to clothes, it obviously depends on if you have to demonstrate anything whether you go with comfy "gym" clothes or business/casual. What you look like IS important but WHAT you say is even MORE important! Good luck!
4:36 pm
Hi Scott,
I would wear red or a brighter blue so that people keep their eye on you!
I think you look great in both pictures, but I agree with everyone. Clean cut is best and I think a professional but casual demeanor will serve you well. You may run a bootcamp, but you aren't a mean guy! As for clothes, if you are demonstrating fitness routines, then workout gear is the way to go, as long as it's well-maintained. It would look weird if you were doing lunges in nice pants.
Good luck!
4:36 pm
Clean cut, and do NOT take those women.
4:37 pm
Hi Scott,
Go clean shaven. I love your happy, light hearted nature. Favorite guys fashion look right now – dark jeans, white shirt (collared or not) with a black blazer and black low top converse. Have seen a couple celebs on Ellen in this look. Its flattering and I love it.
4:39 pm
I like the clean cut look definitely….looks more professional. Just be yourself!
4:39 pm
Scott,
Congrats on the interview. Hopefully we'll get to see it?
Go with the clean cut look…makes you look more credible. Smile (as others have added the dimples are killer) and don't go overboard with the jokes but be yourself…seems you're naturally a jovial kind of guy.
For the attire I'd go with something athletic since you will be demonstrating exercises…and darker colors with no logos/designs.
Keep it simple and be yourself…they wouldn't have invited you otherwise.
Good luck
4:42 pm
Hey Scott,
Go clean my man… go clean.
Tony Books
4:43 pm
"A clean-shaven, naturally confident, well-spoken Scott shows up to the set." No white! The dark blue looks great on you.
Have fun. What would you want to see on TV as a health client and/or professional? This answer will give you your best lead for your TV spot.
4:43 pm
Hi Scott – yes go with the clean cut look, and wear your usual sportswear – after all you are a fitness and health expert! Be relaxed and conversational – i.e. your usual motivational self! Your videos are great, you speak clearly to the camera and explain the exercises well, so just go with the technique you are used to! Good luck am sure it will be awesome!
4:47 pm
Scott, whatever you decide to do, just be yourself. You want to make a good first impression for those who may be seeing you for the first time. Also, what type of person are you trying to attract and how do they dress? I'm sure you have have all kinds of interactions with different people, what works for you (see first sentence).
Let us know when & where you will be on TV.
Go slay the dragon!!!!!!!!!!
4:54 pm
I am gonna throw in a wrench…how about a clean cut goatee? That is still clean and neat BUT hip and edgy. Just a thought. As for clothes – you have a great olive complexion so white or another "cool" color would be good, but avoid "warm" colors near your face such as tan or any version of brown. That baby blue color seems to look good on you!
5:06 pm
Clean cut wins hands down! Keep smiling, be yourself, and have fun. Wear something that shows your great physique but make sure that it is comfortable for you so that you will exude nothing but confidence:).
5:06 pm
Hi Scott
Congratulations!!! Just be yourself, relax and stay calm and enjoy it:). I would go for the clean shaven look. Whatever happens just let God and the Holy Spirit Guide you. You have a wonderful opportunity to spread light , love and positivity. Enjoy it!
Stay blessed,
Giselle
5:13 pm
Just be yourself, in whaterever fits more comfortable to you….!!!!!!!
5:13 pm
I would go with the clean cut look.
5:13 pm
Maybe something like in the first look, without a hat. Clean shaven. T-shirt in clear colout with few lines. You may put a tennis or ninja band on your head. Choose a colour style – blue, purple, light blue, white, grey and just dress and go. On the TV show try to follow the streamline (the conversation) and forget about the camera. Good luck.
11:27 am
I think black tight shirt and beige or black pants with dressing shoes and a wet hair look
5:30 pm
Deff clean cut. If you want to do edgy, do it with your clothes. Good luck!
Jess
5:44 pm
Personally I like the scruffy too, but the clean shaven WILL look better on camera – no busy patterns – I also agree that blue looks very good on you – not a T-shirt though – polo maybe? Smile, light humor, be professional though – pretty much what everyone else said…
5:57 pm
I say go for the first, clean cut look and just relax and be yourself. Don't over think it too much or it won't seem natural.
5:58 pm
Hey Scott!
I kind of look like you (except that I'm a bit overweight): short hair ("bald" would be better) and clean shave. But I can only shave twice or 3 times a week, otherwise my skin will be terrible! So, most of the time I have the scruffy look. But when it's business time, I shave!
So go for the clean cut shaved look on TV!
Also, be fun. Not "funny" all the time, but fun! There's time to be a bit serious and time to be a bit funny. Just be yourself!
5:59 pm
Clean cut look Scott. You look more sharp and professional that way. Give me an update on his the appearance goes.
6:17 pm
Clean shaven and be funny and entertaining!! You have a wealth of knowledge to share, but when you are on tv for a short amount of time– you need to catch everyone's attention.
6:19 pm
The clean cut look! Makes you more serious and professional looking.
6:30 pm
i would say nice clean look like in pic one. maybe good pair of jeans and nice t shirt.
have fun
nat
6:34 pm
Hi scott,
the first picture of course !!!!
Good Luck
6:37 pm
Scruffy look. Makes you look like you are serious about fitness! I like that look.
6:43 pm
Hey There Scott
A pair of tennis shoe's, jeans and short sleeve shirt and a cap and a smile are the best way to go. God Bless!
Very Best Regards;
6:43 pm
Lots of responses, and I agree with almost all of them! Clean cut, definitely. You want to look professional. Solid colors. I've heard lots of suggestions for blue. You'll be demonstrating exercises, so you obviously need something you can move around in and show the full range of motion. Please no track shorts. Richard Simmons has that one covered.
6:58 pm
I vote clean cut… wear a solid blue or green shirt and shorts. Your interview is fitness related so it makes sense you would be in attire for that. As far as personality, nothing shows your personality better than a genuine smile and upbeat attitude. You already have both so you're good to go. Good luck!
8:19 pm
I would suggest you do a clean cut smooth looking athlete outfit. Match down to the snickers.
8:56 pm
Kia Ora from NZ. As your going to be demonstrating some of the exercises & workouts, perhaps consider clothing that will allow movement but might also show muscle definition. Clean shaven is always nicer, allows the viewer to "see" who you are. As for colours, you don't want to blend into the background, it's been said that black & white never goes out of fashion but I think you look good in blue jeans lol. Good luck.
9:34 pm
got a tony little ponytail you could glue on? maybe some richard simmons running shorts? how 'bout the body-by-jake spandex? all a bit outrageous and maybe not as "professional" as some suggest – but how are YOU most comfortable? I'd go with that.
of course, I say this as I struggle with the same issue for my next tv spot this friday. I'm thinking about wearing my vibram five finger shoes… whatcha think?
as they say in theater, break a leg.
-JS-
9:49 pm
You're probably already on TV by now, but I hope you went for clean cut. What you wear will depend on what the interview is for/about, but for TV you should stay away from black or white. Good luck!
10:02 pm
Well…………….based on your picture and my experience with our own web TV show I would say the first look is probably the best. Darker colors. Of course this also depends a bit on the colors / light of the set. If its indoors with lots of white then the dark colors are best. That shirt you have on looks kind of cool AND it looks good on you.
If its outdoors and its very sunny you will also be better off with darker colors. If its overcast either light or dark but pure white is not usually good idea.
Good luck!
11:39 pm
Yes I like the clean cut look as well and agree with the darker colour suggestions by those before me. I also think you should try to relax and just be yourself. I hope it all goes well.
12:23 am
Go with what is natural and you.
It may not always be the status quoe, but it id better than giving a false image. If being light, smiling and having fun is naturally you go with that behavior as well.
12:41 am
I may be too late to advise you on your appearance but all the same be yourself and have a good time.
12:43 am
Hi Scott
I like the picture of you best with your sister, clean cut looks good and I think nice casual clothes would go down well with the viewers, jeans maybe and a nice casual shirt.
Anyway good luck and I am sure it will all go well
June
3:53 am
Clean cut, solid color outfit and most of all —comfortable so you feel at ease in the interview. Be yourself and sincerity will project even at the screen. Good luck! tina
6:06 am
I agree with all those who want you to don the clean shaven, professional look with the light-hearted banter and interaction with whoever's interviewing you. Just be natural and don't force anything that you're not comfortable with (BE YOURSELF!)
Have a fun time! God bless!
7:13 am
first looks better;good luck
8:36 am
I vote clean shaven as well. As for colour, I think a black t.shirt would look very sexy and would accentuate your excellent physique. ; ) Be yourself and go for it I'm sure you'll do great! Go 4 i1!!
10:23 am
No Brainer. You're going on television in front of the public. Clean Cut!
12:01 pm
Pictures I've seen you a nice and I used to see through dress sports extracts, which sent me through the net, but when he appears on that channel, dress like a simple and elegant and will become very attractive and will be Jazpetk in their people and not in clothing worn by, and Good luck
12:23 pm
Hi Scott:
I'm l ate for this. Sorry about. But I'll leave my comment anyway.
I think a nice pair of jeans, with a polo or T-shirt would be fine. The T-shirt or polo should be on one color, as sometimes when there are figures or letters do not look too good on TV.
I hope to have been of assistance.
Best Wishes from Spain.
Susana
12:34 pm
Congrats on the interview. Definitely clean cut!!! I suggest a collared shirt, solid and perhaps on the darker side, to bring your your complexion. Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great!
