What Abs Information Would You Like to See?
March 19th, 2008 · Filed Under: Abs Exercise · Abs Nutrition
Howdy,
A few months ago, I asked you what abs content and information you wanted to see in the upcoming months.
I got lots of great answers and the #1 thing people wanted to see were workout videos and exercise video clips.
People also wanted to see podcasts, diet information, etc.
I hope I have delivered some great content! : )
Well, I’d like to ask for your help and feedback on here once again.
What do you want to see?
Feel free to be creative as I would like this to be a blog that you visit every day and have fun and learn at the same time.
So give it to me straight.
What do you want?
More videos? Perhaps a daily 5-minute workout video to get your day started?
More success stories that inspire you? Interviews with real people just like you that have overcome long odds.
Maybe even other types of videos like my grocery shopping tour - even though I got caught. Oops!
Or maybe you like the blog how it is - a random mix of videos, articles and audio podcasts.
Please let your voice be heard. Shout out your opinion in the Comments section below.
Be as creative as you’d like.
Thanks for your help. I hope to be able to provide you everything you need.
Have an amazing day.
Scott

I work out regualrly, following much of your and Mike Geary’s advice (which has been great, and I am not looking to lose weight, just tone and sculp. I feel like I’ve got a pretty good work-out regine going but I’m not as confident about the diet. I am not sure how much i should be eating. Most diet plans that I found are geared towards men and how many calories a man of a certain size should be consuming. I feel like women are left to adapt those plans for themselves, which isn’t all that easy. Could you provide a sample eating plan for women who want to firm up, not necessarily lose weight. Hope this makes sense. Thanks

I think there should be more videos on abdominal work along with the readings.
Targeting core exercises is the best method and explaining in detail about the exercises along with there benefits is usually the best approach.

Hi Scott,
Honestly, I think what you`re doing, NOW, is pretty darn good! Not much I think you need to change, to make it better.
I know AB`s are mostly made in the kitchen, so maybe you could offer up nutrition suggestions geared to both men and women.
It`s tough stuff getting Lean (I should know..I have gone from 45% body fat, down to my present 14%) and without the proper food plan, most people will never SEE the abs they are trying to build up with all your great videos!
I need to go check out that video of your grocery store visit..cause I think I missed it and it sounds really good!

Hi Scott, thanks for the great info you provide and also for asking us how you can help us out with more info. I find most of your blog is very straight forward and the only thing I can think of at this point in time that would help me out, would be an area where I can download things like, the “Fat Loss Lunch Break” and the new one you have with the Muscle Nerd, the “Military Fat Loss Secrets”. Some of us have evening and night jobs were we can’t use a computer or we are sleeping at the time the calls take place. Even if you can’t keep them available, for downloading forever, a day or so would be very helpful. Keep up the good work, thanks and cheers.

I am working abs at the beginning of my workout, but I don’t know if my routine is suitable for me or I should start an easier one. Here is my current abs workout. It consists of 3 exercises which I do together in a superset. I do 2 supersets per workout.
1.leg raises(on the floor)-10 reps, 30sec rest
2.weighted plank-60 sec,40 sec rest
3.crunches-10 reps,2 min rest before the next superset
Do you think I should go back to beginner’s exercises such as cobra,,draw leg slide, bridge ?

I am 53 and have lost 15kg in 7 months and am in good condition/fit following your and your associates advice. I thank you and one day when I’m next in america I will come and shake your hand. I’m a new and very happy person.
I am still interested in fat loss. I have good hidden abs and workout your smart way, and always hard. Written tips do it for me.
regards Charlie or chuck to you

More videos? Perhaps a daily 5-minute workout video to get your day started?

The Blog is great, and it’s the audio podcasts that I love, as I can listen to them while driving to work. I find I realkly absorb the information that way.
March 20th, 2008 at 4:06 am
I agree with Ros about sample eating plans for women, and I enjoyed the video on push up variations, so perhaps you could include more videos like that
March 20th, 2008 at 4:28 am
I agree with Ros also, there is definately not enough info for what women looking to loose body fat should be eating and when!
Also I’d love to know more about how much cardio one should be doing as a female along side the weights regime for optimum fat loss. Many thanks!

I’d love to see a daily video workout!!
March 20th, 2008 at 5:14 am
hello scott-its always great motivation to hear how others have gotten six pack abs so i’d like to see more success stories. have a blessed day
March 20th, 2008 at 6:31 am
My input is similar to “Ros” and “danetta”. A few years ago, I dropped 50-55 LBS and have been at that weight since. I get asked REPEATEDLY how I did it. People want day-by-day details of what I ate and what exercises I performed. With your resources, perhaps you could do what I was considering. Create a weekly meal plan, put together a shopping list, and take them shopping (with a hidden camera of course! (~:). In addition, a daily workout (home based or gym based) routine would be created (maybe a DVD?). People are so confused by all the information out there, things they see on TV, and what so-called experts tell them that they’re overwhelmed. I think a concise, detailed, step-by-step program would really be beneficial.

Hi Scott! First off thanks for the great stuff you have been putting here - I do enjoy all the stuff you have. I have a fitness question for you - I just dislocated my shoulder and am having a really hard time getting any real exercise done. Is there anything you could suggest for injured people so they don’t lose the momentum?
Thanks so much!
March 20th, 2008 at 8:12 am
My workout routine was in full swing until 2 weeks ago when I woke up on a Saturday morning with a swollen left knee. I had a MRI a couple of days ago and will find out the results this afternoon. Not only has this obviously limited my physical ability, but it was a big blow mentally as well. I had incorporated many of your ideas, shortened and intensified my workouts, added a greater variety of activities, and felt like I was going to be in awesome shape by summer. So I would like for you to address this situation, how to alter a routine around various injuries, what things someone in my position can do to keep the momentum moving forward. Also, pictures are worth a thousand words, so keep the videos coming!
March 20th, 2008 at 8:36 am
I would like more focus on lower abdominals. I have that problem and after having a surgery, I need now to get rid of the unwanted bulge down there. Also, I would love to see more exercise for the buttocks and the thighs.
March 20th, 2008 at 8:37 am
2 things:
1. Like to see genuine comments and advice from the group - sort of: ‘my experiences’ - provided sensible.
2. There are lots of older guys out there - let’s have more for us: we’re becoming an ever increasing part of your ‘audience’ - don’t neglect!
Keep up the good work!
March 20th, 2008 at 8:57 am
Hello there. Maybe this would sound lame or like a lot of work, but how about constructing some kind of different quizes. Something to test us on seeing if we really are picking the best choices or substitutes etc. I don’t know, just a thought. Oh yeah, maybe something on inconspicuous work outs you can do at work. Where I work, I have to sit where all the customers come in and i can’t imagine what they would think if they saw me doing the little chair squats! That’s hard to do with a chair with wheels. HAHA.

At 50, I am proud to be at 8.8% BF but I still only see the litle rolls on my sides form what I think is loose skin more than anything as my abas all show well. I am wondering how to tighten up the sides or is it an aging thing that won;t really go away from the elsticin in the skin?
I do all the side workouts and ab workouts but still don;t take my shirt off on the beach because if the little rolls that still seem to stick out over my waistband.
what to do next?

Dear Scott…
Perhaps this is the wrong time for me to write - a time when here in Malta we are celebrating Easter and what carbs comes with it. But I wanted to respond to your appeal for ideas and feedback about your blog - so here it is.
Firstly, a very well done - or “prosit” as we say here is in place. Your blog is certainly interesting on a number of fronts. It is educative, inspiring and encouraging. I have to admit that your blog was a consistent inspiration for me to work out since March 2007. I lost 22 Kg and am now standing at 98Kg. I’m working hard to shape out the rest - a flab at lower abs and chest. But hey, I’ve never worked out this way in all my 42 years.
During the same period I took up swimming as a perennial sport. In March 2007 I made 300m (in a pool) in 30mins. Now I swim 3Km in 1.5 hours, and am planning to compete in national events. Again, your encouraging blog was critical.
However, what I may suggest is posts related to different sports and what drills/exercises may help, in different disciplines to shape up. Many may simply take up sport (athletics, swimming, football, soccer, tennis and the rest) simply for fitness. Many involve a series of efforts/muscle activities that keep the player in shape. Any clues what these are and how they can be used to better shape ourselves?
Also I think that you nutrition suggestions are great - proteing shakes, meals, drinks - all featuring healthy ingredients. Often these feature American tastes (Peanut butter is one such thing). Are any other tastes/ingredients considered - e.g. Mediterranean foodstuffs (olives, fennel seed, capers, mediterranean herbs)?
Thanks
Manny

Personally, I would like to see an ab video to do each day. It would be like being in one of your classes. I could do it before going off to the gym for weight training.
No more success stories. Reading them only takes time away from reading/viewing something new to learn and try.
Thanks Scott, your emails are the only ones that I feel have valuable, helpful information and keep me motivated.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:12 am
Hi,Scott!
Love the info; was wondering if you could advise how to “override” the hip flexors, to keep lower back stable?
Thanx!
March 20th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
First: Thanks for asking for our/my interests. Second: I’m still searching for a way to shape the body in a way - especially relevant for woman - to loose fat at the right locations of the body, and not e.g. at the breast. Everytime during exercising at a high level, I loose constantly fat starting from the top.

I’d like to advise my son and his high school pals on ab exercises that improve traditional athletic performance (football, wrestling, baseball, etc.). Appearance is secondary. Is there even a difference in approach to appearance versus performance? (Your videos age great!) Thank you.
March 20th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
No to success stories. Yes to your short
excellent videos. I would like to learn what is an appropriate meal to have pre-workout and ditto post-workout with guidelines on timing. Also how much time to spend on cardio-vascular excersise and how much on weight training. I am 65 and can manage some of your excersises but find others difficult. I think I might need to understand how to progress throught increasing levels of excersise. Thank you for your help.

Hi Scott,
First off……..thanks for all the great info up to this point. I don’t always get a chance to practice what you preach but I will continue to work on that.
I am in my late 40’s and have just started to run about a year ago. I also play hockey and X-country ski in the winter and golf and bike in the summer.
I really enjoy your videos as they show me the exact way the exercises should be performed.
Keep showing lots of videos especially ones that will help improve the various sports I participate in.
Thanks again

I appreciate your good advice, and need constant encouragement…As a 64-year-old woman, more or less in shape and active since I lost my fat in my late 20s, and always fine-tuning my knowledge and practice, I’d like to see any or all information for folks like me. I’m not a “Geezerjock,” to cite a popular magazine, never was an athlete. Recently I bought Turbulence Training, and tried that bodyweight method, and dropped my usual gym machine workout, and with the winter blahs, completely lost it. Gained a bunch of weight. Apparently I must not weigh enough to get anywhere with those beginning exercises, compared to Cybex [boring]. Any ideas? Thanks for your good work, Leah P.S. my computer is too slow for videos or audios. Verizon “can’t afford” DSL here.

Always more nutrition stuff is good - the more science to it, the better. Some competition-type sample menus or rapid fat loss while maintaining muscle mass nutrition stuff would be great.

Yes, I’d like to know HOW DO YOU MAKE ANY MONEY DOING YOUR BUSINESS THIS WAY!
I mean, you GIVE AWAY all your info. in
your blog. I know you have a program you
sell, but I can’t imagine that it would
have much more than what you’re already
putting out there FOR FREE. Well, how-
ever you’re doing it, kudos to you. I’ve
recently posted a lot of free training
videos on You Tube (under ALPHA OMEGA
Training Video) partly in hopes of gen-
erating some business. The only problem
is that most of the views are for enter-
tainment purposes more than instruction!
The key is to integrate the two AND get
people curious enough to invest money in
your program (That’s what I think anyway).

Wonderful work so far! I think your blog is one of the most interesting sites I’ve used.
I really agree with ‘AH’, wondering if there is a way to lose fat at only the right places

Hi, I have been trying to workout on a regular basis and to eat well, but it’s proving really difficult. I’m a freshman in college and although I haven’t gained the freshman 15 (thank goodness, knock on wood) I still would like to be fit and more toned for swimsuit season (especially going to college in Florida) what tips to you have to making a program and sticking to it? My main issue is not knowing what to eat with what’s offered here… mostly hamburgers, sandwiches etc. I appreciate it!
