Why Do You Want To Lose Belly Fat?18 Comments
You know by now that extra belly fat can lead to a whole range of health problems including heart disease, heart attacks, cancer, diabetes and an early death. Hopefully that information is enough for you to take massive action to lose your excess belly fat, but sometimes it’s not enough. Sometimes you need to relate this information to something you really value in life. That’s when you really have to dig deep and answer the question: Why Do You Want To Lose Belly Fat?
The picture above is of me, my nephew Benjamin and my niece Cassandra. I got to spend about a week with them in Virginia last week and had a blast. I don’t have kids of my own (although I’d like to one day). But one of the reasons that I want to keep extra fat off my belly is so I can live a long healthy life so I can be around for my nephew and niece. I want to be an amazing uncle to them and be a role model. I want to be able to chase them around and play with them and see them grow up and go off to college. I want to be at their weddings. I don’t want to be sick, stuck at home or in a hospital.
So that’s my WHY.
What’s your WHY? Why do you want to lose belly fat? Dig deep within and make sure it tugs at your heart. (So that means it should have more meaning than “I want to look good in a swimsuit”) If you would like to, please share your WHY by leaving a comment below.
Don’t forget that on Tuesday, August 24 at 8:00 pm Eastern, 7:00 pm Central, I will be doing a live tele-class on my top 7 Strategies on How to Get a Flat Belly Over 40. If you have a question for me, go here and ask away —> Flat Belly Over 40
Have a great day.

For me, above the health related issues, it's all about being a model for my kids. How can I ask them to be serious in their sport, to apy attention to what they eat if all they see in me is a coach potatoe ??

I guess I'm vain. I want to look good! I'm 47 and in the best shape of my life, but the last piece of the puzzle is 6 pack abs. You can have a muscular body, but unless you have a low body fat percentage, it really doesn't show from all the hard work.

Besides the health related issues, I want to look good, I want to have energy to run around with my grandson and granddaughter, it will definitely help in career as a bellydancer and just help me get back into my hobbies.

Well, the number one reason is for my health. Since I turned 50 this past March, I have become a committed vegetarian (instead of the on and off type I have been in the past) and I have had medical check ups (luckily, I am very healthy), went on a estrogen patch to help my hot flashes and got back to exercising. I used to be a gym rat and then my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer so I took her into my house and cared for her until her death. We never had a great relationship, so it was high stress in addition to the illness. At the same time, I was raising a teenager…more stress. After my mom died I started playing World of Warcraft to deal with the feelings of loss and grief. I am just reclaiming my life now after 3 lost years in WoW. I am reestablishing social networks, doing an apprenticeship and trying to get my body back in shape. My teenage daughter just started college today so I feel like I am starting a new life after all that has happened in the past 3 years. I am also supporting my husband through a weight loss program as he became morbidly obese over these past 3 years. He is doing a local program through a medical institution. I am not that far overweight, but still need some help. Oh yes, I also really want clothing to fit me properly again and I want to be able to wear different types of clothing again!

I am 54 and although genically gifted with slim genes…I am now in menopause and notice a huge shift in not only my weight distribution but keeping it off in maintaining my weight. I must do a daily activity (mountainbiking, powerwalking, spin class or work with weights in the gym) to maintain my shape and stay slim. I need to be even more active now then say…10 years ago and be very aware of the foods I eat. It's tough for sure. When I wrap my whole day around my choosen workout or activity…it's gratifying to see my old shape return. It's worth it if you work it AND YOUR WORTH IT!!!

Having the extra belly fat puts me at a risk for a multitude of health issues. I want to live a long and healthy life, I want to watch my son grow up and have children and watch them have children.

Number One for me is to "be health & fitness" for my kids, wife and extended family. I want to be an example and inspire others. Belly fat in some ways to me says, "I've given up, I am outta control and lack discipline"… this is not easy for me and all the more reason I have gone after the belly fat with MENTAL TOUGHNESS. I want this more than I want the brownie or the extra serving that I know in my heart I don't need. The bog bonus is is of course "looking better, feeling better and getting compliments" – I won't deny that but it is not my driving force… I have used this same method in another area of my life that was real tuff and I didn't at first want to change this… I repeat this often. You have to "make a decision" – once you do things will change.

I turned 70 in July and am about 20 pounds overweight, not obese. Here in Florida, it's easy to wear shirts with the shirt tail out, but I'd like to tuck it in more often and not have my belly protruding over my belt. I think I have good genes, but I know if I did get really heavy, it could result in multiple health issues.
When I met my wife 14 years ago, I weighed around 180, but she's so good a cook that we have both gained too much. She's 10 years younger, but has a lot of stress that makes me worry about her. I know menopause doesn't help. She was really "hot" when we met, but I still love her anyway. It hasn't affected our love life fortunately.

I hate fat. Doesn't matter where it is – stuck to me or to anyone else. My own reason for losing my belly fat (which is very little compared with the usual 'hanging out there' stomachs. I have NEVER had a stomach; always walked with it pulled right it, proud of it. Now there it is. I have developed Hypothyroidism, done the tests, take the medicine, but whatever I eat seems to stick to the middle of my body.

I want to lose the belly fat to look great!!!!

Besides wanting to look good in my clothes, I have 3 little granddaughters and another on the way. When I watch them, I want it to be a fun experience for them with all the running, chasing playing we do. I want to be healthy and free of any conditions that belly fat contributes to.

I have some belly fat I'd like to lose~ I'd rather have this body when I'm 70+ !
but, I would LOVE for my father to lose his belly fat. he's in a fight for his life, all but the part for him actually fighting for his life! his extra weight is causing problems he won't admit.
in the past 7 years, he has broken both ankles (they are healed) and has issues with chronic, debilitating back pain, issues with sciatic nerve. he does NOTHING in the way of exercise because it's too hard, he "can't!"
he also goes to an overweight doctor. how handy.
his family (wife, 7 children, plus spouses, 17 grandchildren) have long been fearful of his early departure. he's only 67.
I acknowledge his pain. but, I can't see how he doesn't grasp the selfishness of giving up!
I would be So blessed, if I could help him have Hope that he could make a difference in his health, for him to see progress.

Of course number one is for the health reasons. But number two,and I'm surprised I haven't seen this yet, is to look good naked.

I turned 50 this year. Two of our daughters have gotten married in the last year. One is trying to have a baby. We also have a 4 year old grandson. I want to be the healthy, fun Grandma. The one that can run, play and get on the floor with the kids. I want to live past 90 like my mom is and my grandma did.
